HC Deb 05 August 1941 vol 373 c1793
Mr. Lees-Smith

May I ask the Lord Privy Seal whether he can give the House any information about the arrangements for the statement on the next Sitting Day about the progress of the war?

Mr. Attlee

The Prime Minister has asked me to make a statement upon the war situation at the beginning of that Debate. The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs will take part in the Debate at a later stage, if that should be convenient.

Mr. Shinwell

Are we to understand from that reply that the Prime Minister will not be present?

Mr. Attlee

The Prime Minister will not be present at the Debate. My hon. Friend will remember that the right hon. Gentleman made a statement in the Debate last week on the course of the war. He will not make a statement in the forthcoming Debate.

Ordered, That the Proceedings on Government Business be exempted at this-day's Sitting, from the provisions of the Standing Order (Sittings of the House)."—[Mr. Attlee.]
