HC Deb 30 April 1941 vol 371 c412
7. Wing-Commander Wright

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether his attention has been called to the announcement made by Major-General H. A. Arnold, Chief of the United States Army Air Corps, to the effect that the United States of America would like to see a better means of air communication between the two countries so that it would not take so long to get personnel back and forth; and will he take the necessary steps to expedite the commencement of the North Atlantic service to be operated by the British Overseas Airways Corporation?

The Secretary of State for Air (Sir Archibald Sinclair)

I am glad to be able to inform my hon. and gallant Friend that it is intended to resume an air transport service across the North Atlantic during the coming summer for purposes connected with the war. The operation and management of the service will be undertaken by the British Overseas Airways Corporation.
