HC Deb 09 April 1941 vol 370 c1548
12. Mr. Burke

asked the Secretary of State for Air what amount is allowed to officers in the Royal Air Force for the purchase of their uniforms?

Sir A. Sinclair

The outfit allowance to which an officer is entitled on being commissioned in the Royal Air Force or Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve is £40.

Mr. Burke

Is it not desirable that these officers, when training the youth of the A.T.C. should be given an allowance adequate to maintain their positions in dignity and respect?

Sir A. Sinclair

The men to whom the hon. Gentleman refers have less kit to buy than officers of the Royal Air Force.
