HC Deb 09 October 1940 vol 365 cc353-4
4. Mr. Edmund Harvey

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether further consideration has recently been given to the Publication of a White Paper dealing with the negotiations with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on the subject of Poland?

Mr. Butler

I presume that the hon. Member is referring to the negotiations conducted by His Majesty's Government and the French Government with the Soviet Government in 1939 with the object of restraining further aggression in Europe, and I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to the hon. Member for Dewsbury (Mr. Riley) on 20th March last. Nothing has since occurred to modify the decision of His Majesty's Government not to publish a White Paper on this subject at present.

Mr. Harvey

Is the decision simply on the ground of the objections of other Powers?

Mr. Butler

There are various grounds.
