§ 35. Sir P. Harris (for Mr. Mandel.)asked the Home Secretary what work is being carried out at the Civil Defence Camouflage Establishment on counter-shading, disruption, coincident pattern and deflection; how many technical officers are now employed, what their previous training was; and how many biologists are available for advice, or persons who have attended a course in the science of camouflage?
§ The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Home Security (Mr. Mabane)Countershading, disruption, coincident pattern and deflection are employed by the Civil Defence Camouflage Establishment, in appropriate cases. Eighty-four technical advisers are employed. In most cases, their previous training was as artists or architects. One of the members of the committee which has been set up to advise on questions of camouflage is a biologist. I am not aware of any course of instruction in the science of camouflage.
§ Mr. WoodburnWould it be possible for the Minister to arrange that, when an artist has done the camouflage, some general who knows nothing about camouflage will not come along and order it all to be taken down again?
§ Mr. MabaneI have never known that to happen.
