§ 59. Mr. Denvilleasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the closing of theatres as a result of enemy action on the life of the people, he will consider introducing a moratorium or some similar provision for the temporary relief of the business interests affected?
§ The Attorney-General (Sir Donald Somervell)I have been asked to reply. The Courts (Emergency Powers) Acts, 1939–1940, already provide a measure of relief in certain circumstances to persons who are unable to meet their obligations by reason of circumstances directly or indirectly attributable to the war. I do not think that a moratorium would be desirable in the cases to which my hon. Friend refers, but such cases with others are receiving consideration.
