HC Deb 23 May 1940 vol 361 cc277-8
1. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour whether, with a view to preventing the increase of unemployment in the building industry which has arisen as a result of the war, the Government will consider creating a central co-ordinating authority or committee to direct generally, the entire building situation?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour (Mr. Assheton)

I would refer my hon. Friend to the statement on this subject made yesterday by the Lord Privy Seal.

Mr. De la Bère

Is my hon. Friend aware that in France some such procedure has already been adopted?

Mr. Assheton

We have some information of what is going on in France in this matter.
