HC Deb 19 March 1940 vol 358 cc1817-8
70. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Pensions whether, in view of the recently-announced more generous allowances for dependants ofmen in the Fighting Forces, he will consider a corresponding improvement in the scale and conditions of pensions granted to dependants of men injured or killed in the war?

The Minister of Pensions (Sir Walter Womersley)

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given by me yesterday to the hon. Member for Deritend (Sir Smedley Crooke), of which I am sending him a copy.

Mr. Sorensen

Will there be an early opportunity of discussing the enlarged allowances?

Sir W. Womersley

As I explained yesterday, it is my intention to put these new concessions into operation at once, as this will be to the benefit of all those who are claiming. When an amended warrant is brought before the House, these concessions will be included in it.

Mr. Sorensen

When is that likely to be?

Sir W. Womersley

My Advisory Committee are dealing with this matter now, and I hope to be able to bring the amended warrant before the House within a few weeks.
