HC Deb 19 March 1940 vol 358 c1817
78. Mr. J. Griffiths

asked the right hon. and gallant Member for Rye, as representing the Forestry Commissioners, whether he is aware of the public concern in Wales, regarding the replanting of small areas of woodland which have been cut down for war purposes; and whether the Commission has plans for dealing promptly with this question, on the basis of Government assistance?

Colonel Sir George Courthope (Forestry Commissioner)

The Forestry Commissioners are aware that woodlands exploited during the war should be replanted and, while they have the matter under review, it would be premature at this stage to decide on definite schemes.

Mr. J. Griffiths

Can the right hon. and gallant Member say when he will be able to announce schemes?

Sir G. Courthope

I do not think we shall be able to announce any scheme until it is definitely known what public policy is in regard to land after the war.
