HC Deb 13 March 1940 vol 358 cc1179-80
37. Mr. Burke

asked the Minister of Transport whether the order recently issued to firms in Burnley, to the effect that petrol would not be supplied for the transport of goods to distances above 75 miles, is general throughout the country; and by whom and on what authority it was issued?

Mr. Bernays

I have made inquiries and am informed that no such instruction has been issued by the Regional Transport Commissioner concerned or any of his officers.

Mr. Burke

Then can the Minister say how it is that a number of individual firms have written protesting against this order?

Mr. Bernays

I do not know. They must have written under a misapprehension.
