§ 69. Mr. George Hallasked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that a small parcel, made up of two woollen garments, one tin of sweets, half a pound of chocolate, one tablet of soap, with one letter, was sent from Ynysypwl, Glamorgan, to a soldier serving in Bombay, India, and, when the parcel was received, the soldier was called upon to pay 3s. 6d.; and whether he will consider a reduction in these postal charges on parcels for British soldiers?
§ Captain WaterhouseThe charge to which the hon. Member refers was apparently in respect of Customs duty, and on that point I would refer the hon. Member to the answer on the subject given on 13th February to my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Tiverton (Lieut.-Colonel Acland-Troyte) by the Under-Secretary of State for India, of which I am sending him a copy.
