HC Deb 07 March 1940 vol 358 cc559-60
50. Mr. Thorne

asked the Home Secretary whether he can give any information in connection with the lift-shaft accident in offices at Bedford Row on Friday last, when a man was killed?

Sir J. Anderson

I understand that the deceased, who was employed in the building, was found on top of the lift cage, which was standing at the first floor. It appeared that he had fallen down the lift shaft. The evidence given at the inquest by a representative of the lift makers was that the lift was mechanically and electrically sound. The verdict was "suicide whilst of unsound mind."
