HC Deb 26 June 1940 vol 362 cc433-4
15. Mr. Windsor

asked the Postmaster-General whether it is the practice in his Department for telephone employés, called up for military service, to have their Army pay made up to its civil level; and whether this applies also to the Hull telephone service?

The Postmaster-General (Mr. W. S. Morrison)

The reply to the first part of the Question is in the affirmative. The local telephone service at Hull is owned and administered by the Hull Corpora- tion, and the conditions granted to members of the corporation staff released for military service are outside my jurisdiction.

Viscountess Astor

Why is it that these people have their pay made up while there are thousands of people in the country who do not?
