asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is now in a position to make a statement in regard to the negotiation of a trade agreement with Russia?

Exploratory discussions are at present in progress, but the hon. Member will readily understand that it is not possible to make a more detailed statement at this stage.

When is it likely that a statement can be made?

Mr. Butler

As soon as possible, but negotiations must take a little time.
