HC Deb 20 June 1940 vol 362 c218
16. Mr. C. Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that on the outbreak of war our French Allies prohibited all casino gambling, and whether he will prohibit all gambling in this country?

The Secretary of State for the Home Department (Sir John Anderson)

Gaming houses are already illegal in this country, and whatever may be the arguments for amending the law on the subject of gaming and betting, I know of no justification for taking this matter up at the present time.
