§ 47. Mr. Lyonsasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food what steps have been taken in relation to the release of loose and processed peas, in regard to the high increases of price of which complaints have been repeatedly made to his Department; whether any additional stocks have been released; and whether it is now proposed to apply price control?
§ Mr. BoothbyAs indicated in my reply to my hon. and learned Friend on 21st May, arrangements have been made for imports above pre-war scale. In view of Italy's declaration of war, it is doubtful whether the full quantity will now arrive. My Noble Friend is therefore arranging for immediate consideration of the imposition of price control.
§ Mr. LyonsIn view of the tremendous delay which has already taken place may I ask whether a decision may be expedited in the course of a day or two, preferably to-day?
§ Mr. BoothbyA decision will be given at the earliest possible moment but I cannot now say when.
§ Lieut.-Colonel HeneageWill my hon. Friend bear in mind that peas can be grown in this country, especially on newly turned ground?
§ Mr. BoothbyYes, Sir, we are giving every encouragement to that.
