asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether any steps have yet been taken to assist allotment holders to market any supplies surplus to their own requirements so as to avoid waste of food?

Mr. Boothby

Yes, Sir. Steps are being taken to organise the local collection of surplus produce of allotment holders and to arrange for its marketing as far as possible through the ordinary trade channels. To avoid waste, growers are also being encouraged to provide their neighbours with surplus perishable produce.

What local machinery is being created in this country?

We are in consultation with the National Federation of Women's Institutes, the National Council for Social Service, the National Allotment Society, Rural Community Councils and various other voluntary organisations.
