HC Deb 18 July 1940 vol 363 c373
11. Mr. Benjamin Smith

asked the Minister of Labour in how many ports it will be necessary to establish port registration schemes; and what progress has been made in approving such schemes since the Dock Labour (Compulsory Registration) Order was made?

Mr. Bevin

There are approximately 40 ports in which it will be desirable to establish Port Registration Schemes, and steps have been taken to expedite the submission of schemes from the ports concerned. Since the Dock Labour (Compulsory) Registration) Order was made on 18th June 30 committees have submitted schemes for my approval, and five have sought guidance from me in the formulation of their schemes. Of the 30 schemes submitted, 16 have so far been approved. I expect the remainder will be approved very shortly as soon as a few outstanding points of difficulty are cleared.
