HC Deb 13 February 1940 vol 357 c585
69. Mr. Lipson

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he is aware that members of His Majesty's Forces home on leave, who have cars placed at their disposal for their period of leave by friends, are unable to obtain petrol coupons because they are not the actual owners of the cars, and will he arrange for them to be able to obtain supplementary petrol coupons?

Mr. Lloyd

The present arrangement was settled in agreement with the three Service Departments and I regret that, after further consultation with these Departments, I cannot accept the suggestion made by my hon. Friend. It would involve a large increase in the amount of petrol required.

Mr. Lipson

Is the Minister aware that while he is denying a supplementary petrol ration to men home on leave from France certain firms are advertising cars for hire with a considerable amount of petrol?
