§ 22. Mr. Nunnasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Aircraft Production how the wage cost and the total cost, respectively, of aeroplanes at present compares with the corresponding figures for the month of April?
§ Colonel LlewellinIt is not yet possible to make a precise calculation of the difference between wage costs in the aircraft industry in April, 1940, and the present day. The increase in labour costs attributable to Sunday work and the working of additional overtime is approximately 3½d. per hour for the 70 hours worked, but this additional cost will almost certainly be largely offset by the wider spread of overhead charges over increased production.
