HC Deb 01 August 1940 vol 363 cc1399-400
41. Mr. Parker

asked the Home Secretary whether Mr. J. Lawford, of the Universal Waste Reclaiming Company, Limited, River Works, River Road, Barking, is permitted to continue business; and, if so, whether he will order the police persecution of this man to cease forthwith?

Sir J. Anderson

This company has on its premises waste material constituting a serious fire risk to surrounding property and to an electric transmission line. The police have had occasion to visit Mr. Laufer in connection with efforts which have been made to dispose of this waste material. It is very desirable that the material should be removed, and I cannot regard the action which the police have taken at the request of the responsible Departments as unnecessary or unjustified.
