HC Deb 25 April 1940 vol 360 c372
70. Mr. T. Smith

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food the reason for the delay in paying for pigs supplied to the Wakefield market; is he aware that this delay causes considerable hardship to small producers; and what action he proposes to take to expedite payment?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I am aware that at the commencement of the scheme certain delay occurred in making payment to producers, owing to the difficulty in obtaining suitable staff and also to the large number of weekly payments to be made. I am informed that these difficulties have now been to a large extent overcome, and that payments are being made without undue delay.

Mr. Smith

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that I informed him of a case where pigs were delivered over six weeks ago by an unemployed man and that he has not received a penny, and that in cases like that great dissatisfaction is caused?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

If the hon. Member will give me details, I will look into the case.

Mr. Smith

I sent the hon. Gentleman the information four days ago.
