HC Deb 25 April 1940 vol 360 cc374-5
74. Mr. Kennedy

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he can indicate the terms of his reply to the resolution of the Scottish Old Age Pensioners' Association, calling for the abolition of the means test; and whether any action is to be taken by the Government to secure an increase of purchasing power to meet the rising cost of living?

Mr. Colville

I have seen a copy of the resolution to which the hon. Member refers. The policy of His Majesty's Government with regard to the grant of supplementary pensions is embodied in recent legislation, and no modification of that policy is contemplated meantime. In reply to the last part of the Question I would refer the right hon. Member to the statement made in the House on 31st January last by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer regarding the cost of living.
