HC Deb 25 April 1940 vol 360 c374
73. Mr. Kennedy

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has considered the representations of the chamber of commerce and manufacturers of Kirkcaldy, sent to him regarding the lack of support by the Government for the retail side of the motor industry in the execution of local repair work to Government motor vehicles; whether he is aware that there is at present needless waste of effort and petrol which could be avoided if the work was entrusted, where possible, to local firms; and whether he can indicate any reason why such repair work is not shared by the several large and well-equipped motor establishments in Kirkcaldy?

The Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. Colville)

I cannot trace having received the representations referred to. The allocation of the repair work in question would appear to be primarily a matter for the Government Department, or Departments, to whom the motor vehicles belong.

Mr. Kennedy

If I send the right hon. Gentleman the representations referred to, will he look into them?

Mr. Colville

I shall be glad to look into them.
