HC Deb 25 April 1940 vol 360 c378
Mr. Leslie (by Private Notice)

asked the Home Secretary whether he can make any statement regarding the explosion which occurred yesterday at the works of Imperial Chemical Industries, Billingham?

Sir J. Anderson

I have had a preliminary report, from which it appears that an explosion occurred in the coal-grinding plant of a boiler-house at the Imperial Chemical Industries factory at Billingham. Full investigation is being made into all the circumstances, and I am not in a position at present to make any statement regarding the cause of the explosion. I am sure that the House would wish to join with me in expressing deep sympathy with the relatives of those who have lost their lives as a result of this unfortunate accident.
