§ 38. Captain Pluggeasked the Secretary for Mines, in view of the recent increase in the price of coal, what steps are taken to enforce an adequate definition of coal and to prevent material being sold as coal which comprises more than a reasonable proportion of non-combustible matter; and whether steps will be taken to introduce a system for grading coal according to its fuel content?
§ Mr. LloydCertain areas are at present receiving some house coals of a kind to which they are not accustomed, but I am not aware that there is any ground for complaints concerning non-combustible matter. For the County of London, however, any such complaints are covered by Section 41 of the London County Council (General Powers) Act, 1926, and in other districts the local fuel overseers would be able to deal with them.
