HC Deb 31 October 1939 vol 352 cc1746-7
62. Mr. Loftus

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he will consider granting a loan to preserve in cold storage the ample supplies of herring now available from the East Anglian fishing?

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (Mr. W. S. Morrison)

I have been asked to reply. I am considering my hon. Friend's suggestion, which he has been good enough to put before me in a memorandum, and I will communicate with him as soon as possible.

Sir Arthur Harbord

Is my right hon. Friend aware of the strong feeling among those engaged in the fishing industry at present that there ought to be a uniform price for herring at all the fishing ports, especially if they are intended for home consumption?

Mr. Morrison

I hope the hon. Member will put that question down.

Sir A. Harbord

I will put this question down, and one or two more.
