HC Deb 26 October 1939 vol 352 c1541
22. Mr. Creech Jones

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether an assurance can now be given that adult classes, complying with the Board's regulations and meeting within the mile-and-a-half curfew limit of Leicester Square, may now be regarded as grant earning, and the restrictions under Civil Defence accordingly modified?

Mr. Lindsay

Yes, Sir, I am glad to say that classes under the Adult Education Regulations in the area in question can now be recognised and grant-aided, provided that the meetings terminate not later than 10 p.m., and that the bodies responsible for the establishment of the classes are satisfied that protection will be available for the students in the event of an air raid.
