HC Deb 17 October 1939 vol 352 c653
3. Mr. Ness Edwards

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he has now considered the question of gas masks issued to miners; and whether he has consulted with the coalowners with a view to the provision of suitable containers to protect the masks from damage by coal-dust, heat, and rust?

Mr. Lloyd

Yes, Sir. The matter has been considered in consultation with representatives of owners and workers and there is common agreement that such containers should be provided.

Mr. Edwards

Is the Minister taking any steps to get the coalowners to provide these containers free?

Mr. Lloyd

That is a different question, and I should like notice of it.

15. Mr. J. Griffiths

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he is aware of the fact that miners suffering from silicosis find the ordinary gas mask unsuitable; and whether he will consider the issue of service masks to these men?

Mr. Lloyd

The matter is under investigation and I will communicate with the hon. Member.
