HC Deb 04 October 1939 vol 351 c1953
87. Lieut.-Commander Tufnell

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he will investigate the effect of the restriction of petrol upon the collection and marketing of food; and will he examine all cases of complaints submitted to him under this heading?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

I have been asked to reply. So far as I am aware, the general restriction of petrol has had no adverse effect upon the collection and wholesale distribution of foodstuffs, which enjoy a substantial measure of priority. The position, however, is being carefully watched by my officers, and I shall be pleased to investigate any complaints submitted to me on this matter.

Mr. de Rothschild

Will the right hon. Gentleman take into consideration the complaints made by the milk trade about difficulties in milk marketing at present owing to restrictions on the use of petrol?

Mr. Morrison

As I have said, we have had no complaints. If hon. Members will assist me I shall be greatly obliged.

Lieut.-Commander Tufnell

Does my right hon. Friend realise that in regard to the selling of rabbits it is in the interest of food production that petrol stocks should not be unduly restricted?
