HC Deb 03 October 1939 vol 351 c1820
77. Sir H. Williams

asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of agricultural workers at the date of the annual returns in June, 1939; and what change this respresents as compared with June, 1938?

The Minister of Agriculture (Colonel Sir Reginald Dorman-Smith)

The number of agricultural workers, as returned on 3rd June, 1939, by the occupiers of agricultural holdings exceeding one acre in extent in England and Wales, but excluding the occupier, his wife, and domestic servants, was 606,300, representing an increase, as compared with June, 1938, of over 13,000, or 2 per cent.

Sir H. Williams

Is it the fact that this is the first increase reported for many years?
