HC Deb 03 October 1939 vol 351 c1809
48. Mr. Vyvyan Adams

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will now consider introducing legislation to enable insured spinsters to receive pensions at the age of 55?

The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir John Simon)

The Government do not contemplate the introduction of legislation for the purpose suggested.

Mr. Adams

Is the Chancellor aware that the members of this movement have suspended activities in order to be able to assist the national cause, and will this action be remembered when we reach a victorious peace?
