§ 44. Mr. R. Gibsonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware that officials of churches in Scotland applied to the local air-raid precautions organisation and to the burgh engineer's office for advice as to where to buy sand bags to protect their church premises but could not get any advice; that they received from private firms on the 25th September an offer at 6d. each; and on 1808 26th September an offer at 7d. each; that the wholesale price of such bags was recently 2d. to 2½d. each, but is now 5¾d.; and whether he will take steps to secure that adequate supplies of sandbags are available at fixed prices, and that local air-raid precautions organisations and burgh engineers be informed of the location of such supplies?
§ Mr. ColvilleThe question raised by the hon. and learned Member affects more than one Department not under my control. If he will be good enough to give me more specific information about the cases he has in mind I will see that it is referred to the proper quarter.
§ Mr. GibsonWill the right hon. Gentleman see that these air-raid precautions organisations and burghengineers are aware of the places where sandbags can be got?
§ Mr. ColvillePerhaps the hon. and learned Member will have a word with me about it.
