§ 15. Mr. Burkeasked the Postmaster-General whether he will reconsider the inland postage rates for parcels sent to men in the armed forces, as these greatly increased rates cause much hardship to poor persons?
§ Major TryonI regret that I am unable to apply the inland rates of postage to parcels sent to men serving in the armed forces overseas, but I am reviewing the present rates in consultation with the Service Departments.
§ Mr. BurkeWill the right hon. and gallant Gentleman bear in mind that when the price goes up from 11d. per 8 lbs. to is. 3d. it is a great hardship on women with 17s. per week?
§ Major TryonI am aware of that. Some time ago the matter came to my knowledge, and we are reviewing it with the Service Departments. I think if the hon. Member will wait he will find that the rates are more favourable when he sees our proposals.
