HC Deb 16 November 1939 vol 353 cc801-2
20. Mr. Rhys Davies

asked the Home Secretary whether the work of prison visitors has been curtailed?

Sir J. Anderson

The work of prison visitors is continuing, but there is necessarily some reduction in visiting owing to the difficulty which many prison visitors find in attending prisons under wartime conditions, and also in some cases to the claims of war service. The Prison Commissioners are grateful to those visitors who have found it possible to continue their services under difficult conditions, and they very much hope that there will be no undue curtailment of this important work.
