HC Deb 16 November 1939 vol 353 c820
45. Lieut.-Colonel Sir Thomas Moore

asked the Prime Minister whether he will consider setting up a Parliamentary committee to consider the various war-time restrictions imposed by the Government Departments concerned, with a view to their modification if so recommended?

The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir John Simon)

I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the answer which the Prime Minister gave on 27th September last in reply to a question by my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Carlisle (Brigadier-General Spears).

Sir T. Moore

Is my right hon. Friend aware that that is nearly two months ago, and that as increasing restrictions tend to depress the spirit and morale of our people, the matter should be reconsidered in the interests of the country?

Sir J. Simon

If my hon. and gallant Friend would like a more recent reference he might look at the statement made at the Mansion House one day last week.
