§ 12. Mr. Ammonasked the Secretary of State for Air whether he will consider recommending that the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross should be made applicable to all ranks of the Royal Air Force without class distinction as in the case of the Victoria Cross in the Army?
§ Sir K. WoodAs I stated recently, I am considering the conditions of eligibility for the Distinguished Flying Cross.
§ Mr. AmmonWhy should there be any delay in coming to a decision on this matter? Five men did equally meritorious service, and one of them gets a lower award simply on the ground of his social standing.
§ Sir K. WoodI do not think that is the case, but, as I said on the last occasion, there are many considerations to be taken into account, and it is a matter on which I shall have to consult the other Services.
§ Mr. ShinwellCan the right hon. Gentleman give us an assurance that there will be no distinction on the ground of rank, and that the only basis will be one of merit?
§ Sir K. WoodThat is a matter which I am considering now.
