HC Deb 02 November 1939 vol 352 cc2093-4
26. Mr. Tomlinson

asked the Home Secretary whether it is the intention of His Majesty's Government to promote legislation bringing within the scope of the Workmen's Compensation Act the disease known as bysinosis, common to card room workers in Lancashire, as recommended by the Departmental Com- mittee in their report issued early this year?

Sir J. Anderson

In order that the question of legislation may be considered, steps are being taken to ascertain how far it would be practicable, under war conditions, to work out in detail and put into actual operation schemes on the lines suggested by the Committee.

Mr. Tomlinson

Would the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind that this question has been in existence for a long number of years, and that until a decision has been reached many people are suffering hardships in consequence?

Sir J. Anderson

The hon. Gentleman will see that my answer indicates that consideration is being given to the matter, but there is involved the rather difficult question of organisation.
