asked the Minister of Supply whether he will assure the House that he is not paying more than 14s. per shell case for 3.45-inch shell, whether made from bar or forging?

As the hon. Member is aware, it is contrary to established practice to publish the prices paid under contracts, but I can at least assure him that in many cases the combined cost of the forgings and machining which are ordered separately will on present costs of material and wages approximate to the figure mentioned.
