HC Deb 01 November 1939 vol 352 cc1915-6
30. Mr. Jennings

asked the Minister of Transport what substantial savings he now contemplates making in his Department having regard to the fact that the work of road inspectors and vehicle examiners must be considerably reduced as the regulations under the Road and Rail Traffic Acts have now become almost redundant?

Captain Wallace

Apart from those members who have joined the Forces, the staffs to which my hon. Friend refers have been transferred to work on the Emergency Scheme for Road Transport, on which they have been, and are, very fully occupied. I am now considering the transfer of some of these officers back to work in connection with the enforcement of safety regulations.
