HC Deb 25 May 1939 vol 347 cc2477-8
46. Mr. Gallacher

asked the Prime Minister whether he has considered a resolution from the Cyde apprentices protesting against conscription, demanding an immediate alliance with the Soviet Union and the granting of the youth charter; and what answer he proposes to return to these demands?

The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir John Simon)

I understand that a communication in the sense of the hon. Member's question, purporting to represent 15,000 Clyde apprentices, has been received at 10, Downing Street. The communication was not framed in such terms as to admit of a reasoned reply.

Mr. Gallacher

Is the Minister aware of the character of the demands in the Youth Charter, and will he be prepared to give some consideration to them in order to make the conditions generally better for the youths who are employed in industry?

Mr. J. J. Davidson

Does the Minister think that the Military Training Bill is framed in such a way as to bring about reasonable service from these youths?
