HC Deb 08 May 1939 vol 347 cc2-3
2. Mr. Day

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India the number of trades unions, including federations, borne on the registers of India, as at the last convenient date?

The Under-Secretary of State for India (Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead)

I regret that I have no figure later than that which I gave in reply to the hon. Member's question of 23rd May, 1938.

Mr. Day

How often are these figures forwarded to England?

Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead

The administration of the India Trades Union Act is now, of course, a matter for the provincial Governments. My Noble Friend will not normally get the information.

Mr. Day

Do I understand that no information is supplied by the provincial Governments?

Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead

It is not customary for information in the hands of the provincial Governments referring to these matters to be supplied.
