HC Deb 08 May 1939 vol 347 c29
58. Mr. Rostron Duckworth

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware of the anxiety caused amongst professional and business men in the Territorial Army and employers of officers and men in that Force by the statement in the Explanatory Memorandum to the Reserve and Auxiliary Forces Bill that it may be necessary under existing circumstances to take steps at any time to call up for service all persons constituting such Forces, and including the Territorial Army; and whether he can give some assurance that the Territorial Force will not be called up for service unless a condition of imminent national danger of great emergency actually arises?

The Financial Secretary to the War Office (Sir Victor Warrender)

I would refer my hon. Friend to the statement on this subject which was made by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister on 26th April. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for War will deal with this matter in his statement on the Second Reading of the Reserve and Auxiliary Forces Bill to-morrow.
