HC Deb 08 May 1939 vol 347 cc3-4
1. Mr. A. Jenkins

asked the Undersecretary of State for India whether he can make any statement on the position as regards the proposals for federation; and in particular regarding the attitude taken by the Committee of Ministers of the Indian States to this question?

Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead

Since the reply given on 19th December to the hon. Member for West Leyton (Mr. Sorensen), proposed terms of accession to the federation have been communicated to the Rulers of Indian States. The correspondence between the Crown representative and the Rulers is confidential and my Noble Friend is not in a position to make any statement on the report of the committee referred to by the hon. Member.

Mr. Jenkins

Can the Minister say when he will be in a position to make a statement on the position?

Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead

I am afraid I cannot give an undertaking with regard to that.
