HC Deb 08 May 1939 vol 347 c22
41. Mr. Hely-Hutchinson

asked the Minister of Labour whether the remuneration of managers of Employment Exchanges and of branch offices is based upon the number of persons on their live registers of unemployed?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour (Mr. Lennox-Boyd)

Managers of Employment Exchanges are civil servants on fixed scales of salary. The managers of branch offices are not permanent officers but are in the position of contractors, and I am sending the hon. Member a memorandum explaining their conditions of service. Their remuneration is based on a scale related to the volume of work at their offices, including that of filling vacancies from the registers.
