asked the Minister of Labour the total number of persons employed on unemployment administration, and the total cost of such administration in Scotland for the years ended January, 1937, 1938 and 1939, respectively?

As the answer includes a table of figures I will circulate it, if I may, in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether there has been an increase in the cost of administration in Scotland?

There are two sets of figures, one showing an increase and the other a decrease.

The average number of persons employed on the administration of unemployment insurance and unemployment assistance and the total cost of such administration in Scotland were approximately as follow:
