HC Deb 16 March 1939 vol 345 c601
83. Sir Arnold Wilson

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that several coroners are 90 years of age; and whether he will consider, in the public interest, some means of encouraging them to end a career of public service by providing facilities for honourable retirement?

Mr. Lloyd

Coroners are appointed by the local authority and my right hon. Friend has no information as to the ages of coroners though he is aware that some of them are of an advanced age. As regards the second part of the question, I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to Section 6 of the Coroners (Amendment) Act, 1926, which makes provision for the superannuation of county and borough coroners in the circumstances prescribed in that Section.
