HC Deb 13 March 1939 vol 345 c9
6. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Prime Minister whether he can state, for the period 1st January, 1938, to the period 31st December, 1938, the total number of duplicate passports which were issued by the head passport office on account of passports which were reported as stolen or missing?

Mr. Butler

Careful inquiry is made in every case in which a person reports the loss of a passport and steps are taken with a view to preventing the use of such passports by unauthorised persons. I regret, however, that no separate record is kept of the totals.

Mr. De la Bère

In view of the right hon. Gentleman' s answer, may I ask him whether he would have a word with me later about this matter?

Mr. Butler

Certainly.
