HC Deb 13 March 1939 vol 345 c29
47. Colonel Burton

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is in a position to state the date upon which the payment in relief of growers of barley and oats will be made?

Sir R. Dorman-Smith

Growers of barley and oats whose applications for subsidy under the Agriculture Act, 1937, have been accepted will receive payments on the scale authorised by that Act as soon as possible after the average price of oats in the United Kingdom in the seven months 1st September, 1938, to 31st March, 1939, has been calculated. The proposed additional assistance announced on 23rd February for the 1938 crops of these cereals cannot be paid until the necessary legislation has been passed by Parliament.
