HC Deb 07 March 1939 vol 344 c1924
87. Mr. Mander

asked the Prime Minister whether any exchange of views has taken place with the United States Government on the subject of the recognition of General Franco?

The Prime Minister

No exchange of views took place between the two Governments, but the United States Government were kept informed of the views of His Majesty's Government in regard to this matter.

Mr. Mander

Is it not the policy of the United States Government not to recognise acts of foreign aggression; and has the Prime Minister any knowledge of what attitude the United States Government are going to take up on this matter?

The Prime Minister

It is not for me to say what the policy of the United States Government is.

Mr. Mander

Does not the right hon. Gentleman know very well what attitude the French Government would take up?
